Over a cup of tea…

By Monday, February 22, 2016

If we were chatting over a cup of tea this morning, I’d tell you we had the best weekend! I’m really focusing on spending quality time with My Other Half and friends before the baby arrives, and this includes lots of eating out and doing things that are so easy now, but will be much harder with a tot in tow. I finally got to Erling’s Variety (it was good! I loved the decor and environment, and the gnocchi and scallops I had were delicious) with girlfriends and My Other Half and I stopped into my old stompin’ ground Feleena’s for lunch. I cannot get enough of their food! We also saw Deadpool, which was hilarious and not your typical superhero movie. Otherwise, we’re getting lots of sleep while we still can!

Over a cup of tea

If we were chatting over a cup of tea, could perhaps talk about the American presidential election? I don’t normally get political on the blog, but I’m both surprised and scared of how well Trump is doing. At first, I found his bid entertaining and my guilty pleasure was watching him in debates. I guess I never really thought Republicans would take him seriously (and I am still hoping they won’t). The possibility of him being president is seriously disturbing. For my American readers, in Canada a politician could never get away with what seems to be propelling Trump to the top. Does he actually have a shot against Hillary or Bernie? I hope not. What do you think?

If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d tell you I’ve been on a smoothie kick this past week! When My Other Half is home, I always get him to make me one for breakfast, but recently I’ve been making them for him instead. Yesterday I put a twist on my go-to green smoothie, substituting pineapple for mango. Love! I’ve been obsessed with pineapple lately. Nowadays, though, I always add either a tablespoon of ground flax, chia seeds, protein powder or hemp seeds. Our Ninja is on its last legs unfortunately, though, so we’ll probably invest in a new one soon. That baby doesn’t owe us a dime – I got it about four years ago and we’ve used it almost every day. I’ve considered getting a Vitamix, but rationalize that $150 for a Ninja (which lasts 4-5 years) vs. $600+ for a Vitamix (no idea how long it would last) is basically the same thing, so we’re sticking with Ninja. If you want an afforable blender, I highly recommend it, specially for the individual Magic Bullet-like cups.

If we were chatting over a cup of tea, I’d talk nail polish (of course). This week I wore Essie’s Hi Maintenance and right now I’m wearing Rock The Boat, which I’m hoping looks more frosty and less beachy. I’m sooo looking forward to spring colours, particularly lilacs! My girlfriend suggested I post a picture of my mani every Monday in this post, but I rarely feel my nails look good enough for sharing. I also hate gross manicure pictures on Instagram or Facebook – they’re also as bad as terrible, dark, yellow food photos that make your meal look like crap (pet peeve). But when my nails are looking good, I will definitely try and share!
